This animation shows power outages spreading in Florida during Hurricane Irma in 2017 and the subsequent recovery.

U.S. Power Grid Animation

This animation compares the power consumption and fuel mix patterns in the United States over the 24 hours of a cold snap “polar vortex” winter day and a heat wave summer day.
COVID Electricity Demand
These graphs highlight the drop in weekday electricity demand that occurred during the first few months of the pandemic in early 2020.

Data Art
This graphic was designed as a fun farewell gift to a colleague on their retirement. It shows the average daily electric load shape of each season (winter, spring, summer, fall) for the 56 high-voltage power grid operators (i.e. balancing authorities) in the contiguous U.S. The colors signify the geographic region of each grid operator and the grey underlines mark the grid operators that are also regional transmission organizations / independent system operators (RTO/ISOs).
